Map makers who have a loose heirarchy and frequently merge with other tribes
Formation
Part of a series about the Tribes of Outlook.
This Tribe is a slightly odd one- whilst they might have a central home that they call theirs, this is often little more than a flag in the ground, surrounded by meeting benches and other items of temporary habitation. They are regularly found milling with other Tribes, and exploring, mapping out the Outlook and beyond. They intermingle with other Tribes regularly- though they will have children with them, and their loyalty is first and foremost to their own.
Leadership
The Cartographer Tribe are led by an elected ‘Pathfinder’- they gather once every few years to elect their chosen candidate, who will define their long term goals- often where they should explore next. The Pathfinder is always accompanied by a Melder, who sends messages on their behalf, and is known as ‘The Compass’
Reputation
The Cartographers have a reputation as useful, due to their literacy, intelligence, and knowledge of the wider world. Few Tribes will object to a Cartographer joining them, who can take on a lot of the duties of transcribing ideas, and mapping the surrounding area. They can make grudges though, as they will be vehemently against any suggestion they should join the Tribe they have met with permanently.
Religious Beliefs
There is a strong worship in the concept of a ‘Divine Globemaker’, who has sculpted the world and left it to go about its own devices. For this reason, they see evidence of divinity in everything, and do their best to record it. They also have a tendency to pick up some of the religious beliefs of the Tribes they find themselves in.
Defining Trait
Every member of the Cartographer Tribe is biliterate, taught from birth. Not all can write Citadel Script, but those that aren’t ensure the housing of an AI to teach them.
Aesthetic
All carry a set of pen(cil)s and rough paper on them at all time- often put in a travel case.
Members inspire themselves by the plethora of obscure meaningless words formed by degraded signs they find around Outlook while charting and exploring. Thus names might include Hiren at Lay, Dot Eter, Strom, Eric Drea or Mency Exol.
